In Pennsylvania, Elizabeth, 64, has been missing since Monday evening, after falling into a 10 meter deep hole that suddenly appeared under her feet. Emergency services have been working for more than 36 hours to find her.
On Monday evening, in the small town of Marguerite, Pennsylvania, Elizabeth was desperately searching for her cat behind a restaurant. Suddenly, a 10 meter deep chasm formed under his feet. This hole, according to the authorities, opened suddenly onto an old coal mine.
This cavity was not there before
“This cavity wasn’t there before. It probably formed when she stood on it.”explained Steve Limani, police officer, referring to the potential instabilities of the local underground.
Colossal resources deployed
From Tuesday, around a hundred rescuers, including firefighters, police and soldiers, were mobilized to try to find the sixty-year-old.
The operations required widening the chasm in order to lower microphones and cameras.
Searches recently located a shoe, reinforcing hopes of finding Elizabeth. “We are very confident that we are in the right place”said a rescue operations manager.
The family remains hopeful
Nearly 36 hours after the disappearance, Elizabeth’s car was found near the hole, with her five-year-old granddaughter inside.
For his family, hope remains intact. “We appreciate everyone’s support. Right now, all we’re doing is hoping.”confided his daughter, Tabitha.
Faced with this critical situation, local authorities declared a state of emergency to mobilize additional resources and intensify research.
