Egypt believes there is “a high probability of reaching an agreement that will end the war in Gaza before US President-elect Donald Trump comes to power on January 20”, the Qatari newspaper reported on Tuesday Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.

The newspaper learned that Egypt has an “American guarantee” to resolve issues related to the establishment of the Gaza administration, in order to progress on the agreement in the Gaza Strip, similar to what recently occurred in Lebanon and which ultimately led to a ceasefire agreement. It is also stated that, according to Egyptian sources, Hamas “made concessions” and was in fact more flexible on its demand for Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. Depending on this “flexibility”, the withdrawal could be longer than any scenario put forward in recent times, according to the media.

At the same time, in the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbarclose to Hezbollah, it is written that despite the progress made in the negotiations between Cairo and Hamas concerning a temporary pause in the Gaza Strip, there are still unresolved points, in particular concerning the release of Palestinian prisoners within the framework of the agreement. It is also alleged that an “Israeli delegation is expected to arrive in Cairo in the coming days for additional discussions, which will focus on the first days of the truce.” An Egyptian source told the newspaper that Egypt expects a breakthrough in the near future, but it is suggested that “Israel may have surprises.”
