The Winterlights of Luxembourg City are a succession of particularly successful festive events. Even if it means being victims of their success. If you were there, you saw for yourself the crowds at the launch of this 2024 edition last weekend. A “significant crowd” at the Christmas markets and various busy sites from one district to another, the City confirmed in a press release on Thursday. And this crowd could quickly make the experience unpleasant for visitors, especially when arriving by car.
“The various Christmas market sites are easily reachable by bus and tram,” reminds the municipality. The Wantermaart via the Roosevelt and Hamilius stops, the Niklosmaart via the Paraïsser Plaz, Place de Paris and AI Avenue stops, for example. “The frequencies and connections of the AVL bus lines and the tramway, serving the different car parks, are available via winterlights.vdl.lu,” underlines the press release.
The personal car can easily be left in the car parks located on the outskirts of the capital, in this case at P+R Bouillon, Stade de Luxembourg, Kockelscheuer or even Luxembourg Sud. “They offer nearly 5,900 locations (…) just a few minutes from the city center or the Gare district by public transport.”
Free for 24 hours, they are in addition to other “state or private” car parks along the tramway route in Kirchberg. Here again, the number of free spaces in these different car parks can be consulted in real time on parkings.vdl.lu and on the Cityapp-VDL mobile application.
