Several members of Donald Trump's future administration have been the victims of threats, including numerous bomb threats, the FBI said Wednesday. A situation deplored by Joe Biden.
The FBI indicated that several members of the future Donald Trump administration had been victims of threats. Indeed, the American federal police confirmed that they were “aware of numerous bomb threats and acts of swatting targeting people expected to join the next government team”.
As a reminder, “swatting” is a practice which consists of provoking police raids on victims under the pretext that a crime is taking place there. The president-elect’s spokesperson Karoline Leavitt denounced “anti-American” attacks.
Former parliamentarian Lee Zeldin, chosen by Donald Trump to head the Environmental Protection Agency, said he was targeted Wednesday with his family by “a bomb threat” accompanied by a “message to pro-Palestinian theme.
“Neither my family nor I were at home at the time and we are safe,” he added on X.
Threats taken “seriously”
In a statement, the FBI said it took “all potential threats” “seriously”. Informed of the situation, outgoing President Joe Biden condemned “unequivocally the threats of political violence,” according to a White House press release.
The Democrat's administration is in contact with federal authorities and the Republican billionaire's team on the subject, she said. Joe Biden has pledged to do everything to enable a “peaceful and orderly” transition with the president-elect.
