Dany Poilane is the manager of the Ultramarina travel agency in Villeneuve (VD) and Geneva. He has specialized in diving for fifteen years. “Egypt is a mecca for diving in the world. There are therefore a lot of service providers on site,” he confides. The tragedy cannot be explained, especially since the boat was recent and the shipwrecks are due, most of the time, to strandings or fires. He acknowledges: “Like everywhere, some providers prioritize money over security.” This is why his agency works with a limited selection of partners on site, the same ones for years. As for whether this series of accidents in the Red Sea can affect diving trips to Egypt, he does not believe so. “People know how to sort things out. And a lot of people work very well there, so I don’t think it’s a destination to avoid.”
