Morocco has been recognized as one of the leading producers of strawberries, ranking in the world’s top 10 for 2024, as indicated by the World Population Review. The national production of strawberries reached 166,955 tons, which demonstrates its important role in the international market. This achievement highlights the evolution of Morocco’s status in the agricultural field.

The global strawberry market is witnessing a surge in demand, with China, the United States and Egypt leading the production. China leads with a substantial production of 3,336,690 tonnes, followed by the United States with 1,055,963 tonnes and Egypt with 597,029 tonnes. Other major producers are Turkey, Spain, Brazil, Russia, Poland and Morocco.

The main production areas in China are Hebei, Shandong and Liaoning, while in the United States, California is the main producer, with 90% of its strawberries. In Egypt, the main regions are Ismailia, Beheira and Qaluobia.

Geographic variations influence strawberry ripening seasons, with temperate regions having early summer harvests and equatorial regions offering year-round production capabilities. Morocco’s entry into the top 10 strawberry producers highlights the resilience of its agricultural sector and its potential to meet global standards despite environmental and logistical challenges.
