When we talk about extreme weather in the aviation industry, we often think of severe storms and snow. We don’t know that the heatwave can also disrupt airline schedules.

This is what is currently happening with Air Algérie flights. In a press release published this Monday, 1is July, the Algerian airline announced that ” some of his flights » have experienced « delays or cancellations ” because of ” exceptional climatic conditions experienced by certain wilayas in the south (Algerian) ».

Concretely, Air Algérie planes are grounded and prevented from flying by high temperatures, wind, and poor visibility. “ The delay and cancellation of some flights are mainly due to the increase in temperatures and strong sand winds which prevent our planes from taking off and flying. “, explains Air Algérie.

Temperatures reaching 50°C in Algeria

On June 29, 9 of the 10 hottest cities in the world were in Algeria. These are Ouargla, with 50.1° C, followed by Hassi Messaoud, Adrar and Timimoun, Touggourt, Ain Salah, Rhourd Nouss, Krechba and Golea.

The latest special weather bulletin (BMS) issued by the National Meteorological Office indicates this Monday 1is July that a heat wave placed on red alert will affect the wilayas of Ouargla, Touggourt, El Meghaier and el-Oued, with temperatures reaching 50°C.

The wilayas of Biskra, Ghardaïa and Djelfa were placed on orange alert in a BMS from the National Meteorological Office published yesterday, Sunday June 30, which predicted temperatures reaching or exceeding 49° C.

Finally, note that some of the cities in the south of the country affected by these successive heat waves, like Biskra and el-Oued, which are served from Paris by Air Algérie, are home to international airports.

Air Algérie is committed to supporting its passengers in these “ exceptional circumstances »

Air Algérie indicates for its part that it is following the evolution of the weather very closely and that it is working in cooperation with the organizations concerned in order to “ ensure accurate and instant updates about weather conditions that could impact flights ».

In addition, the national company assures that it tries to “ implement all possible alternatives » to help its customers reach their destinations as quickly as possible.

Air Algérie is also committed to helping its customers find accommodation in hotels if necessary and to facilitating the procedure for a new reservation, we read in the same press release.

Finally, the airline specifies that these precautions are dictated by its desire to “ ensure the safety of its passengers and their comfort ” and that she does her best despite everything to provide “ the transport service ” in these “ exceptional circumstances ».
