Donald Trump finalizes his government by appointing Brooke Rollins, former advisor and president of AFPI, Secretary of Agriculture. Loyal to the president-elect, her mission will be to support farmers and food self-sufficiency in the United States.
US President-elect Donald Trump on Saturday announced the nomination of Brooke Rollins, president of the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) think tank, as Secretary of Agriculture. This was the last position to be filled in his government.
A lawyer and former director of the White House Domestic Policy Council at the end of Mr. Trump’s first term, Ms. Rollins co-founded AFPI in 2021 with figures close to Donald Trump, such as Larry Kudlow and Linda McMahon, this the latter having been appointed Minister of Education.
“Brooke’s (Rollins) commitment to America’s farmers, to defending America’s food self-sufficiency and to revitalizing small towns dependent on agriculture is unmatched.”Donald Trump said in a statement. “Its mission will be to protect our farmers, the true backbone of our country”.
A key role in agriculture and food security
As head of the Department of Agriculture, Brooke Rollins will oversee the government’s agricultural and food programs, food research and trade, as well as food safety, animal welfare and plant health.
Ms. Rollins, 52, is described as a traditional conservative, but her approach could create tension with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is nominated for health secretary. The latter is committed to improving the quality of food in the United States and wants to reduce the use of chemicals and ultra-processed food.
An almost complete government team
Brooke Rollins was once considered for the position of Donald Trump’s chief of staff, ultimately awarded to Susie Wiles. With this appointment, the president-elect has completed his government and is now focusing on the attribution of the main positions of the federal administration, approximately 4,000 of which are renewed during an alternation at the White House.
Donald Trump quickly built his team by rewarding several loyalists, notably Secretary of State Marco Rubio, former Fox News presenter Pete Hegseth at Defense, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a former independent candidate who joined Mr. . Trump and appointed Secretary of Health.
Positions still vacant
A few positions remain to be filled, such as that of head of Small and Medium Enterprises or the Office of Science and Technology. The White House Trade Representative (USTR) position is also vacant, but new Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick is expected to oversee these teams, which traditionally report to the presidency.
