Hello and welcome to our live coverage.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) on Thursday issued arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his former Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, and Palestinian Hamas leader Mohammed Deif for war crimes and crimes against ‘humanity.
The Chamber issued arrest warrants for two individuals, Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu and Mr. Yoav Gallant, for crimes against humanity and war crimes committed from at least October 8, 2023 until at least May 20, 2024 , the day the prosecution filed the requests for arrest warrants.
Mohammed Deif of Hamas is also the subject of an ICC arrest warrant. The Jewish state claims that the latter was killed in an air raid on July 13, which Hamas denies. Other leaders of the Islamic Resistance Movement are targeted by this arrest warrant from the court, which sits in The Hague.
ICC prosecutor Karim Khan asked the court in May to issue arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Gallant. The Jewish state had filed two appeals to challenge the jurisdiction of the court, appeals which were rejected by the ICC.
