Warnings of a threat of a large-scale air attack on the Ukrainian capital on Wednesday come a day after Ukraine used US-supplied ATACMS missiles to strike Russian territory.

The US Embassy in Kyiv closed its doors on WednesdayWashington fearing the imminence of a “significant air attack”according to a press release published online.
“Out of an abundance of caution, the embassy will be closed and embassy employees have been instructed to shelter in place,” indicates the press release, which also invites American citizens present in the Ukrainian capital to take shelter.
Spain and Italy followed the US lead by also closing their embassies in Kyivwhile France calls on its nationals to exercise increased vigilance.
This warning comes a day after Ukraine used US-supplied ATACMS missiles to strike Russian territorywith US President Joe Biden apparently giving the green light to the use of these weapons after months of hesitation.
In response, Russia lowered its threshold for triggering a nuclear strike on Tuesday facing a wider range of conventional attacks.
Delivery of American antipersonnel mines to Ukraine
Since Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election, Joe Biden has significantly increased US aid to Ukraine.
Reports on Wednesday indicate that Joe Biden reportedly authorized the supply of antipersonnel mines to Ukraine.
The use of these mines is condemned by a large part of the international community, due to the potential collateral damage caused to civilians by these devices.
Kyiv has committed to using only time-limited mines and not using them in densely populated areas.
