In Dallas (Texas), this Friday, November 15, 2024, a plane of the local company Southwest Airlines was hit by a gunshot, reports BFM. The machine was going to take off for a flight towards Indianapolis.

“Southwest Airlines Flight 2494 was about to take off for Indianapolis when a bullet apparently struck the right side of the plane as the crew prepared for takeoff“, said an airline spokesperson.

It was a Boeing 737-800, which was immediately taken out of service. The Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) further clarified that the shot hit the cabin “near the cockpit”but that no passengers or crew members were injured. They were able to disembark after the plane returned to the Dallas airport gate.

The cause remains unknown

The origin of the shots remains unknown, and it is unclear whether the plane was deliberately targeted. As of Saturday morning, no arrests had been reported.

The runway from which the plane was due to take off reopened after a temporary closure while police continued their investigation. “The impact on airport operations has been minimal”said the airport in a press release published on X.
