The heatwave reigns over Greece and has already caused the deaths of three tourists in a week. Since Friday, two French women have been missing on the small island of Sikinos. According to the information available, the two women, aged 64 and 73, left their respective hotels to meet up.

One of them then allegedly sent a message to the reception of the place where she was staying to say that she had fallen and that she was not feeling well, accompanied by a photo where she appeared to be lying on the ground, according to “Paris Match”. The authorities were unable to precisely locate the signal, which however appeared to be emitted from the steep south of the island.

Obviously, the two women had not yet found each other at the time of the message and we do not know anything about what happened to the other. “Some trails on our island are not mapped. We are combing the area, equipped with boats and drones. Firefighters and volunteers are participating in the search,” assured Vassilis Marakis, the mayor of Sikinos, on Sunday. Above all, it is very very hot. Another tourist goes missing on the island of Amorgos.

On Sunday, on the island of Corfu, the body of a 55-year-old American tourist was discovered, bringing to three the number of foreign tourists found dead in the country of Greece in one week. Most of these tourists had undertaken hikes under the blazing sun, while the heatwave was raging in Greece.

The American’s body was discovered at sea near the port of Mathraki by a tourist. According to Athens News Agency, the fifty-year-old was on vacation in Mathraki. He was last seen by locals at a cafe last Tuesday.

This is the latest discovery of the body of a foreign tourist, after that of British television star doctor Michael Mosley, found dead on June 9 on the island of Symi in the Aegean Sea and then that of a Dutch tourist on Saturday on the island of Samos. The body of the 74-year-old Dutch tourist was spotted by a fire brigade drone on Saturday morning, lying in a ravine a few hundred meters from where he was last seen last Sunday, walking with difficulty .

On June 9, British journalist and doctor Michael Mosley, known for his appearances on flagship British television shows, was found dead on the island of Symi, several days after his disappearance on June 4. His lifeless body was spotted by a crew from Greek public broadcaster ERT who were filming the area where the 67-year-old man had disappeared. Michael Mosley had taken a walk on the coast, in the heat of the day.

Meteorologists say Greece experienced the earliest heatwave lasting at least three days on record, with temperatures topping 38 degrees.
