New flood in Spain: violent floods hit Cadaquès, dozens of cars swept away by the waters

Last night, floods hit Cadaques, near the border in northeastern Spain.

As in Valencia, cars were swept away by torrents of water.

The images, once again, are impressive, as shown in the TF1 news.

In the middle of the night in Cadaqués, the water in the stream that runs through the town rises by the minute. In the TF1 news video to be found at the top of this article, we see in the distance the first cars being carried towards the sea. We are in the city center. “It's 4 a.m. and the river has turned into a river. The cars are blocked“, comments a woman who films the raging waters from her balcony.

In the images that follow, water lifts vehicles and rushes into businesses. The force of this sudden phenomenon is reminiscent of the floods in the Valencia region. In a few minutes, around thirty vehicles were thrown towards a bridge.

This Friday morning, the cleaning of the premises begins. Our team went to the disaster victims on site. “Here, the residents are still shockedsays our special correspondent Martin Falaizeau. The alert was given to them around 3:50 a.m., far too late to have time to move their vehicle. As a result, dozens of cars were swept away by the current“.

It must be said that residents have gotten into the habit of parking in the dry watercourse. The map below shows that the Saint-Vincent River had long since been transformed into a street, on the part in red:

Heavy rain also fell on the French side, in the Pyrénées-Orientales, with 122 millimeters recorded in Canet-en-Roussillon in just 12 hours.
