Morocco has adopted an innovative approach to the social contract, aligned with a royal will, as highlighted by Younes Sekkouri, Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills, during the 112th session of the International Labor Conference in Geneva.

Since 2022, the Moroccan government has been working to develop a new concept of social dialogue, with the institutionalization of this dialogue as proof of its success. Various measures have been taken in the short term to ensure the credibility of this dialogue, including increasing wages for 2.4 million workers and tax reorganization.

Under the aegis of King Mohammed VI, a social program was initiated for 12 million vulnerable people, thanks to a unique register which facilitates effective intervention. Furthermore, a large-scale social protection program has increased the number of beneficiaries from 1.2 million to more than 22 million.

These initiatives also aim to stabilize prices through the compensation mechanism, with more than 10 billion dirhams disbursed from the state budget for these programs and projects. The Moroccan government also calls on the international community to explore new methods of financing the social contract via innovative partnerships.

The current session in Geneva brings together representatives of the three labor parties (governments, workers and employers) from 187 countries. Discussions focus, among other things, on protection against biological risks and fundamental rights at work, with a general debate planned on decent work and the care economy.
