A view reserved for those who are not afraid. In Norway, a new attraction promises thrills to visitors above the village of Loen, in the northwest of the country. This is “Stigull”, a suspended ladder allowing you to climb to the top of a mountain after its 120 steps floating in the void, reports Le Figaro .

According to its creator Per Helge Bø, this new attraction, accessible since May 31, 2024, risks “make the majority of people’s legs tremble a little”. And for good reason: the famous ladder, 40 m long, is suspended at an altitude of 800 m. From a distance, it gives the impression that people are simply walking in space.

A breathtaking view at the top

This metal staircase inclined at 45 degrees allows you to reach the summit of Mount Hoven and represents the last section of the famous Loen via ferrata. “If you dare to look around you, you can enjoy a spectacular landscape with its sparkling fjord and majestic peaks,” explains Per Helge Bø, interviewed by CNN Travel .

Once at the summit, hikers can also take a break and have a bite to eat at the restaurant there, before returning much more easily to the village, thanks to a cable car which descends the mountainside in just five minutes.

Weight and crowd limits

However, the safety rules regarding the suspended ladder are very strict. “All climbs on the Loen via ferrata, including the Stigull, are done while being securely attached to a wire,” explains the creator of the attraction to CNN Travel. To access it, you must also weigh between 40 and 120 kg, specifies the via ferrata website. Only 40 people can climb it at the same time.

Price-wise, the experience is not cheap. For an ascent of Mount Hoven with a guide, count around €150 for an adult and €130 for a young person aged 12 to 15. According to Per Helge Bø, “exposure and sense of accomplishment […] immense » felt during the ascent are worth the detour – and the investment! Reservations are limited and are only open until October 31, 2024.
