Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday sent his “heartfelt congratulations” to his “friend” Donald Trump for his “historic electoral victory” in the American presidential election. “I look forward to renewing our collaboration to further strengthen the (…) global and strategic partnership” between India and the United States, Mr. Modi declared on the social network X.
“Let us work together to improve the condition of our people and to promote peace, stability and prosperity in the world,” added the head of the Hindu ultranationalist government.

Last month, the American president-elect praised the qualities of the Indian Prime Minister in a podcast followed by millions of listeners. “He’s my friend,” Mr. Trump declared. “He makes you feel like your dad. He’s the nicest man. It is mortal,” he added.
Narendra Modi said he spoke on the phone with Trump on Wednesday evening and congratulated him on his “spectacular victory.”
