Lhe image of King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia being heckled, welcomed this Sunday like the Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, by throwing mud and cries of “assassins”, set the tone of disarray and anger of the population of Paiporta, one of the cities most devastated by the catastrophic floods which hit the Valencia region, in Spain, last week.
A sign of the tension, which according to some testimonies apparently targeted less the royal couple than the Prime Minister and the president of the region, Carlos Mazon, the visit to the victims was cut short after an hour, making it possible to avoid a repeat of the revolt in Chiva, another city which was also to welcome the sovereign. He was nonetheless able to converse with a few residents, under the cover of an umbrella and with his feet in the mud.
