Five new people were killed in atrocious circumstances this Thursday, May 23, three days after the discovery of ten bodies in several neighborhoods of the famous Mexican seaside resort, shaken by a resurgence of violence linked to cartels.

The tourist paradise has been showing a terrible face for a week. The city of Acapulco (southern Mexico) was the scene of a new bloody massacre: five people lost their lives this Thursday, May 23 in an attack linked to drug trafficking. Three days after a previous macabre discovery.

Four men and a woman died and another person was injured in the attack, which occurred in a grocery store at a craft market on a main city thoroughfare. According to the local press, the corpses showed signs of torture.

Bodies riddled with bullets

In recent days, this famous seaside resort on the Pacific coast has been plagued by renewed violence linked to cartels. On Monday, 10 bodies were found in several neighborhoods of the coastal city.

A sign of the level of horror: several bodies strewn on the ground were found riddled with bullets after being thrown from a car. Four of them were found completely dismembered.

Like “cursed”, after a devastating hurricane

This place, once popular with American tourists, has suffered setbacks for several years, as a victim of bad luck. The city was partially destroyed by a powerful hurricane in October 2023. Added to this are the almost 2,000 murders recorded there the same year.

In Mexico, violence linked to drug traffickers has left some 450,000 dead and more than 100,000 missing since 2006, when President Felipe Calderón (2006-2012) launched a military offensive against drug lords.
