They had not been used on a mission for seven years. At the end of his mandate, Barack Obama used them against a jihadist base in Libya in 2017. But, with the exception of tests and a few demonstrations of force in northern Europe, against Russia, stealth bombers B-2, these “flying wings” which are the most expensive in the history of American aviation, remained in their hangars in Missouri. On Wednesday, they intervened in Yemen, bombing installations and weapons depots held by the Houthis, the de facto authorities in the country.

This operation was presented by the American military command as aimed at “degrading the capabilities of the Houthis” in connection with their attacks against ships in the Red Sea and the threats they represent for “regional partners” of the United States.
