Several hundred people gathered at the United Nations roundabout in Ouagadougou to show their support for the president of the transition in Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore after shootings near the presidential palace.

Indeed, according to the state agency of Burkina Faso, “an individual with indelicate behavior attempted on Friday May 17, 2024 around 4:30 p.m., to attack the sentry stationed at the presidential palace of Koulouba in Ouagadougou.

“The elements on duty were able to quickly bring the incident under control and no damage was reported despite the shooting,” said the state media.

In response to this incident, supporters of the transition gathered at the United Nations roundabout in the heart of the Burkinabe capital, Ouagadougou.

According to the demonstrators, this is to warn of any attempt to destabilize the power in place and to show their support for Captain Traoré.

“Prevention is better than cure”, launched a demonstration which strived in a live broadcast on social networks to call on populations to gather at the circle renamed after the captain’s name. Ibrahim Traore.

According to the demonstrators, there are attempts to destabilize the transition which ends on July 1.

To follow up on this transition, national meetings are convened on May 25 and 26 in Ouagadougou.

The active forces will thus have to deliberate on the follow-up to be given to the open transition at the beginning of 2022 after the coup d’état against the democratically elected president Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, then that against lieutenant-colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, eight months later.
