Russia announced on Sunday that it had shot down 125 Ukrainian drones overnight, including 67 in the western region of Volgograd alone, a few hundred kilometers from Ukraine.
“During the night […]125 Ukrainian drones were destroyed and intercepted by air defenses,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in Telegram.
In detail, 67 aircraft were shot down over the Volgograd region, 18 over the Rostov region, 17 over the Belgorod region, the same number over the Voronezh region, one over of that of Bryansk, one also above the Kursk region, another in the regional subdivision of Krasnodar and finally three above the Sea of Azov.
All regions concerned, with the exception of Volgograd and Krasnodar, border Ukraine.
Volgograd is located a few hundred kilometers from the border and Krasnodar neighbors the Crimean peninsula, annexed by Russia.
The governor of Volgograd, Andrey Bocharov, declared in Telegram that there were no casualties or damage, as did his counterpart in Rostov, Vasily Golubev.
Voronezh Governor Alexander Gusev also said there were no casualties in his region, but reported two fires in residential buildings.
Russia announces almost daily that it has destroyed Ukrainian drones launched against its territory.
Kyiv says it is carrying out these strikes in response to the Russian bombings which have beset Ukraine for more than two years and is targeting military and industrial targets as a priority.
