By the evening edition.

In the United States, a 3-year-old girl told her parents that she heard a noise in the walls of her room. She thought it was a monster. Her parents tried to reassure her. In vain. The noise was real. We tell you.

Behind the door, the sound of a terrifying buzzing escapes. Black plastic sheets cover the windows. Nothing should escape. The room is condemned. On the other side of the walls, thousands of bees have taken up residence in the bedroom. Honey spilled all over the floor. A 3-year-old American girl’s toys have become sticky.

This story takes place in Charlotte, a city in North Carolina. In mid-April, Ashley Massis Class, who goes by @classashley on the social network TikTok, posted a video. “When your daughter says she hears “monsters” in the walls, it’s actually 50,000 bees buzzing”she writes.

Night terrors and “anti-monster” spray

At first, however, Ashley and her husband don’t take their daughter’s fears seriously. The little one, aged 3, is starting to have “night terrors” every night. “She was panicking, she kept saying there were monsters, she wanted to sleep in our roomtells the mother of the family to the American magazine People. We thought, in part, that she was seeking our attention because I had just had a baby in February. »

To reassure her, her parents show her that there is no one in her closet. They make jokes about monsters, give him a spray bottle filled with water that’s supposed to be “anti-monster spray.” Unfortunately, nothing works. Their daughter continues to hear noises. And the nightmares remain.

Bees without a hive?

One day, Ashley and her husband notice bees lurking around their house. The insects rush into the attic of their century-old building. They then call on beekeepers to get rid of them. In turn, the experts are faced with a problem: they cannot find the hive. Aside from the attic, no sign of bees in the house. Finally, one of them sits down and watches. He analyzes the architecture of the house and decides to go to the 3-year-old’s bedroom, just below the attic.

@classashley Replying to @paulinaa2x I completely agree. There’s an unestimated number of bees left and they’re raging #bees #savethebees #nightmarefuel #toddlerroom ♬ original sound – Ashley

Equipped with a thermal camera, he scans the walls and discovers an astonishing thing. One of the partitions presents particularly strong thermal activity. An elongated orange shape extends across the wall. “At first I thought it was a body, I wondered what it was”, recalls Ashley. Pragmatic, the beekeeper thinks of a hive.

Two queens and 60,000 bees

To test his hypothesis, he hits the wall with a hammer. Everything then happens very quickly. The bees suddenly come out in their thousands. Entire swarms escape from the wall. A true horror film. Ashley says again: “There were streams of bees, and the wall where he hit was oozing honey. But it looked like blood running down my daughter’s pink walls because it was very, very dark. »
