The majority of children are afraid of ‘monsters’ hiding in their bedrooms, but for one family in North Carolina, USA, that imagination turned out to be real after a terrifying discovery: tens of thousands of bees camouflaged in a wall.

It was little Saylor Class, aged three, who first complained about the noises made by “the monsters in the wall” in her room, according to information from “BBC News”. Thinking that their little girl showed a great imagination, her two parents did not take it into account.

Plus, the family of three had just watched the Pixar movie “Monsters, Inc.”

However, the couple began to ask questions after a few months, when the young child was still complaining about noises in her wardrobe.

While trying to get answers, her mother, Ashley Massis Class, heard the buzzing of some bees near the fireplace and attic. She quickly concluded that this was the sound her daughter was hearing.

But she had no idea how many bees had infiltrated her house.

The nightmare began when Mme Class decided to call a pest management company and a beekeeper. They confirmed that a huge hive had been established there for almost eight months.

In total, between 55,000 and 65,000 bees were removed from the wall, in addition to the hive which weighed nearly 100 lbs. The expert said he had never seen a nest so buried in a wall.

Damages from this incident reached £16,000, or more than 27,500 Canadian dollars.
