The Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) carried out three major operations during the month of April 2024.
In Mali, the army carried out new successful strikes against terrorist groups. The objective was to neutralize terrorist leaders and dismantle armed groups in different regions of the country.
The first operation, carried out on April 19, 2024, was a special precision mission aimed at neutralizing Alkalifa Sawri, presumed responsible for multiple attacks against the FAMa and civilians along the Timbuktu-Goundam road, two towns in central Mali distant from ‘a little over 80 kilometers.
Long sought by the Malian authorities, Sawri was identified thanks to a “valuable collection of intelligence”, indicates the general staff. The operation took place between Douetiré and Acharane, two localities administratively falling within the Timbuktu region.
The second operation carried out by the FAMa, dating from April 12, 2024, resulted in the neutralization of Ali Sekou Alias Diouraydi, terrorist leader operating in the Dogo sector, Youwarou zone. Diouraydi, deputy of Hassane Alias Cheik Oumar, was responsible for numerous abuses against local populations and the planting of improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The operation took place around Laounia, a hamlet in the Mopti region.
Finally, on April 15, 2024, the FAMa launched a major offensive in the Bana and Kabio (Sofara) sector, Djenné circle, still in the Mopti region. Combining artillery fire as well as the deployment of ground and air forces, this operation made it possible to flush out and neutralize a major terrorist group. Added to this is the recovery of materials and equipment abandoned by the fleeing attackers.
These three operations demonstrate the FAMa’s commitment to fighting terrorism and ensuring the security of the Malian population, assure the authorities. They also testify to the fact that despite the efforts made, terrorist groups continue to act and commit deadly attacks.
