Volley 89 loses the standoff with leader Évreux

In the clash at the top of Pool B of Women's Elite, this Saturday, November 30, 2024, Volley 89 lost in four sets, on the floor of Évreux VB.

The fight was fierce. As announced, the duel between the undefeated leader Évreux and his runner-up Sens at kick-off was fierce. Buoyed by the fervor of their Jean-Fourré room, the Ébroïciennes made the best start and logically obtained the victory in the first round (25-21). Riding on their good end to the first set, the Senoneses were able to compete in the next, but came close to the wire in the money-time (25-23).

premium “Already a play-off match”: duel at the top for Sens Volley 89, at undefeated leader Évreux

As is often the case in this scenario, the leading team then faltered after the break, at the same time as the one dominated until then threw its last strength into the battle. Led in particular by an Annie Hatch of great evenings, the Lionesses began the hoped-for comeback by pocketing the third set, on a final ace from Lauren Clark (18-25). If the two teams were still neck and neck at the start of the fourth round, the Icaunaises then, as in the first, fell back into their faults. Despite a burst of pride from SV89, Évreux had the last word (25-20, 3 sets to 1), after a little over two hours of match.

The reaction of Simon Garel (SV89 coach)

“The only duel in which we were really up to the task was the fight. In terms of commitment, it was a very good match. But all the other duels, like serve-receive, the net, tactical discipline… We lost them. Individually, Évreux is still above us. Everything is not to be thrown away, the group has shown lots of good things and progress. But we are, without hesitation, below Évreux. Even if I don't think we could have won, it's a failure not to have made it to the tie-break. »
