“I hope to be fully operational in 15 days.”: injured in the abdominals, Béziers captain Nada Maewad is gradually returning

With two trips in four days, the Béziers Angels program promises to be tricky. But the team, which goes to Terville-Florange this Saturday, October 19, will be able to count more and more on its new captain.

Victim of an abdominal tear during summer preparation with the Béziers Angels, Nada Maewad was forced to stay away from the field for six weeks. It’s only been a fortnight since the 26-year-old Egyptian international forward/receiver made her gradual return to competition, without being completely recovered. She will still be on the scoresheet this Saturday.“I’m coming back, as you saw last week, she indicates. But I can’t force it too much yet. I have to just defend without attacking. I hope this weekend I can attack more. I am working with the coach, the doctor and the physiotherapist to return as soon as possible. We progress step by step, adding additional exercises week by week. I hope to be fully operational in 15 days.”

“I have often been captain in my career”

Arriving this summer from Düdingen, Switzerland, after playing two seasons in Lugano, Nada Maewad is beginning her fourth professional season. Having attended an American university, the Cairo native is also vice-captain of the Egypt team. The number 7 from Béziers also represented her country during the Rio Olympic Games in 2016, in beach . A young player with already a lot of experience, the captain’s armband does not scare her: “It’s not really new for me because last year I was vice-captain, just like in the national team. I have been captain many times in my career. Of course, it comes with a lot of responsibility, but I got used to it.”

This Saturday, Nada and her teammates will have a lot to do in Terville-Florange, in , before heading straight to neighboring Alsace to face , four days later. Two big formations from the Saforelle Power Six. But the Egyptian came to Béziers for a new challenge: “It’s a high-level championship. It’s only been three weeks since I discovered the matches here. But from what I’ve seen so far, it’s very competitive and quite interesting.”
