Two weeks after its first defeat of the season in the tie-break in Valenciennes, Sens Volley 89 was reassured by defeating Rennes, in its Roger-Breton complex, this Saturday, November 16, 2024.
The “encouraging defeat” on the floor of Valenciennes on the last day ultimately did not dampen the good Senonese dynamic for long. From the start of this duel against Rennes, contender for the play-offs, the SV89 set the tone, with a well-run first set, animated by the already striking returns of the enterprising Nihel El Ghoul and Annie Hatch (25-17) . Despite a slight drop in speed at the end of the next set, the Senoneses logically took the lead at the break (25-22, 2 sets to 0).
But when it was time to dampen Rennes' last hopes, the Lionesses fell back into their mistakes in the third rounds, with a new gap allowing the visitors to resurface (19-25), after having been on the brink of the abyss (led 8 -2).

The Icaunaises did not ruminate for long and regained both their spirits and their Volleyball, to drive the point home in style in the fourth and final act (25-14, 3 sets to 1). The flawless performance at home therefore continues for SV89, which after the defeat in the tie-break of Valenciennes in Évreux during this 7th day, climbs to second place. With four units ahead of their Breton opponent in the evening, first team out of the play-offs.
The reaction of Simon Garel, trainer of SV89
“It was as complicated as expected. We were largely level in the service-reception duel, although this has been Rennes' big quality since the start of the season. We were also very disciplined on the blocking-defensive system against their strong attackers and the play of their passers. We made the difference in a lot of hot moments. But as usual, we got through it in the third set. I have the feeling that we want to end our matches too quickly, that we start looking for individual exploits. The counters were then reset to zero in the fourth. These three points are very, very welcome. »
