Chaumont VB 52 Haute-Marne did not want to become the first official victim of Plessis-Robinson in the Marmara Spikeligue, just before starting the Champions League. The Cévebistes were finally able to accumulate three additional and not superfluous points.
The start of the meeting is difficult for Plessis-Robinson, deprived of several elements (Paofai, Ponsin) and who must still find automatisms with his new passer, Léo Meyer, who arrived only a few days ago. Approximations which benefit Chaumontais deprived of Mathis Henno (hamstring contracture), but which, in a different configuration from the previous week (with Niko Suihkonen and Josef Polak), remain rather competitive (5-8) . The CVB 52 can thus count on the explosiveness of Jacob Pasteur and Pierre Toledo to maintain this gap (12-15). But for several minutes, the Haut-Marnais have been cruelly lacking in solutions to make a bigger difference. The locals took advantage of this to get back together (14-15), but the too many direct errors from the Ile-de-France residents remained too detrimental for them to keep up with their opponents of the day (15-19). The entry into play of Shane Holdaway offers a little more presence in the center to the visitors, who logically go on to win the first round: 22-25 in 28′.
It was under the onslaught of Pierre Toledo, serving and attacking, that Le Plessis-Robinson experienced his first disappointments in this second act (1-0, then 3-5). As before, the gap is widening on the scoreboard: a reflection of an obvious qualitative difference on the ground. At “8-12”, the Chaumontais have yet to give any direct error to their opponent, while the latter is struggling to withstand the physical impact imposed by the CVB 52 (9-16). The scenario is written and seems immutable until its end: 18-25 in 23′.
Certainties shaken
Small event when, for the first time in the match, Le Plessis-Robinson manages to achieve the “break” (2-0). An advantage that the Ile-de-France residents even manage to “inflate” (8-4), facing the Cévebistes who have lost their realism, but who can still count on the opposing waste to stay in the race at the start of the third set (9 -7). And when Niko Suihkonen remembers the good memories of his former club on his back line, helped in the finish by Pierre Toledo, the CVB 52 resurfaces (10-11). Especially since in difficult situations, the Haut-Marne team can always count on the accuracy of its passer, Joseph Worsley, to put the ship back afloat and its attackers in the right tempo (15-17). But the locals do not intend to give up without a fight: a combativeness translated by greater aggressiveness in the block in particular, which allows them to muzzle the Cévebist attackers (20-18). With two set points in his favor (24-22), Le Plessis-Robinson must first stop the success of Jacob Pasteur (24-25), before concluding with determination: 28-26 in 38'.
It is to Jacob Pasteur that Joseph Worsley decides to give the offensive keys to this start of the fourth act (4-4). CVB 52 did not appreciate the scenario of the previous round and made it known. Lukas Maase's services put the stability of the local game in difficulty and the visiting counter line ruled the roost (4-8, then 5-12). The Chaumontais return to the “normal” course of operations and logical domination (12-18). The last burst of Ile-de-France (14-18) was finally managed with the return to business of Pierre Toledo, absent since the start of the set, and by Jacob Pasteur: 22-25 in 29'.
An important victory to begin this intense period ahead and the Champions League which arrives on Wednesday November 13, with a first trip to Germany, to Lüneburg.
