The sharp Slovak international Karin Sunderlikova will, without a doubt, be one of the Angels' major assets against Canet this Saturday, November 2, during the 7th day of the Saforelle Power Six.
Aged 25 and measuring 1.88 m, the number 18 from Béziers is the top scorer in the championship, with 136 points to her credit in six championship matches (28 sets played). Volleyball, a sport that the Slovakian started young, just like her two sisters: “I started playing volleyball around the age of eight because my best friend played the sport. I joined a school team rather than a club. At 11, I joined a club called Bilikova, one of the best teams for young players in Slovakia. I was Slovak junior champion there.”
Very quickly noticed
Quickly noticed, Karin was selected for the junior national team before joining Slavia Bratislava, one of the benchmark clubs in Slovak women's volleyball, with 27 national titles. “When I was younger, volleyball wasn't as popular as it is now, continues Karin. The most popular sports in Slovakia have always been ice hockey and football, while basketball, volleyball and handball share a similar level of interest. But volleyball has gained popularity recently. Last year, with the women's national team, we qualified for the 2025 women's world championship.”
With the Slovak selection
It has already been seven years that the Slovak sharp has worn the colors of her country, with major competitions to her credit: “I was part of the team for the European Championships in 2021 and 2023. This summer we played in the Golden European League. I'm proud to be part of the selection, and I'm working hard to stay on the team.”
Impressed by the level of the French League
At club level, after two seasons in Italy and two in the Czech Republic, Karin Sunderlikova decided to join Béziers this summer. “This is my first year in France. I had several options, but I chose this club because I felt it had great potential. I am very impressed by the level of the French League, it is even better than I thought. The team and the girls are incredible: we all work really hard, and the atmosphere is fantastic. I feel lucky to be part of such a positive environment.”
During her recovery time, the neo-Biterroise likes to listen to music: “I love music, and it changes with the seasons. Right now I'm already in the Christmas spirit, so I'm listening to Christmas songs. In September and October, I mostly listened to vintage artists like the Bee Gees. In the summer, it was often more pop, like Dua Lipa or Miley Cyrus.”
