explanations of the ending (and in particular the huge twist for the sequel)

Season 2 of Silo on Apple + ended with major revelations about the history of the series, which shook up what we thought we knew. SPOILERS WARNING!!

Season 1 of Silo had conquered the public with its clever post-apocalyptic science fiction universe, where social criticism was skillfully mixed with a straight-forward thriller. This first burst of episodes ended on a pretty crazy cliffhanger, where we discovered, like the heroine Juliette Nichols (Rebecca Ferguson), that there were dozens of other silos in the world. outside.

The second season of the series designed by Graham Yost was able to maintain the level of quality of the first, despite the multiplication of narrative issues, and some slowdowns. A success which consolidates the high quality of Apple TV+ creations, alongside Severancewhose excellent season 2 has just arrived. Season 2 of Silo lifted the veil on many mysteries, particularly around this key character, and its final episode delivered crucial insights into the series’ mythology.

When we think that we will have to wait for season 3

Fallout (better)

The season 2 finale felt like a race against time. Juliette Nichols managed to return to silo 18 just in time to dissuade the residents from going out, by confirming to them that the air outside was indeed toxic. She also informed Bernard (Tim Robbins) of the existence of a way to prevent the “last resort”, a mechanism intended to poison the inhabitants in the event of an uncontrollable revolt in the silo. We learn in passing that the silos were built 382 years before the start of the series.

It is especially the final scene which will bring new perspectives on the history of the world of Siloand on the creation of gigantic bunkers. The episode transported viewers back in time to Washington, D.C., where a member of Congress discusses with Hélène, a journalist from the Washington Post, the measures to be taken after a radioactive attack on American soil, the origin of which is attributed to Iran. This sequence suggests that the construction of the silos is a response to this threat, in other words it would be an attempt to preserve and save the American people.

Silo prepares its season 3

However, the exchange between the MP and the journalist remains quite murky, because it is difficult to know if the man is indeed telling the truth, or if it is a question ofa political maneuver to manipulate public opinion. We will later appreciate the appearance of a PEZ dispenser, a relic present in the silo centuries later, which establishes a tangible link between this flashback and the present of the series.

At the microphone of TV Lineshowrunner Graham Yost confided that he wanted at all costs to have a finale for his season 2 that was the opposite of the cliffhanger of the first season.

“We thought long and hard about how to end the season – there was talk of ending in the airlock with the fire – but this is not a thriller series. We don’t go out with a gun to anyone’s head or that sort of thing. The end of season 1 boils down to “Damn, there’s a lot more than just one silo!” Where is she going, and what will happen to her? And season 2 is like, “Oh, I think we’re going to find out how this all started.” »

Rebecca Ferguson, imperious from end to end

Apple has already confirmed that Silo will have a season 3 and a season 4, which will be the last. The third season of Silo should adapt the book Silo – Generationsthe second volume of the Hugh Howey trilogywhich serves as a prequel by exploring the genesis of the silos and the disastrous events leading to their creation. We should therefore find Ashley Zukerman (Succession, Designated Survivor) in the shoes of MP Daniel and Jessica Henwick (Game of Thrones, Matrix : Resurrections) in the role of journalist Hélène.

For the moment, season 3 of Silo does not have an official release date, but it is expected to arrive in 2026. The entirety of seasons 1 and 2 of Silo is available on Apple TV+.
