“My first word was tractor, before mom,” smiles Loyd Morice. At the age of 26, he finally settled down as a farmer on the Guérande peninsula (-Atlantique) in Saint-Molf. A journey that would have lasted 7 years, punctuated by obstacles for the young man who nevertheless grew up “on the ass” of cows, his feet in the dung, sitting on the tractor and his head, held high, full of a dream: become a peasant. And thus follow the path opened by her mother Nathalie, a farmer widely followed on social networks, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.

“I never gave up”

“This is what I’ve wanted to do since I was born. I couldn't imagine my life any other way. I never gave up,” Loyd Morice explains to the Echo de la peninsula, in the middle of the Malabry farm of which he is now the new operator-tenant.

This is also where he spent part of his childhood before following his mother Nathalie, a farmer and founder of the Morice Islands farm, just opposite.

Since January 1, 2025, Loyd has been the third partner of the operation, with his mother and his sister Samantha.

The beautiful revenge

“Finally, I got there, it’s a great revenge for me,” confides the young farmer who has been trying to settle down since he was 19.

At the age of 20, he almost took over a farm in Guérande but the project failed.

Since then, he has stepped up his efforts.

But I had a lot of obstacles in my way. The support of my family has been very important.

Agricultural land pressure, administrative burden and sometimes old grudges and quarrels slow down his project.

“At one point, he was desperate,” admits Nathalie.

“A profession of passion”

But Loyd hung on.

I wasn't even disgusted by the dirty tricks. I was told to try to settle somewhere else, but this is where I want to be a farmer. It's a passion job, you can make a living from it as long as you put in the hours.

At the Malabry farm, the work promises to be titanic. Everything must be cleaned, dumped, repaired, sanitized, beautified.

“It’s work, we’re going to spend time on it but we’ll get to the end. This farm will be a beautiful place again,” smiles Loyd.

And its installation will allow the Morice Islands farm to engage in other projects.

200 ha d’exploitation

Created 17 years ago by Nathalie Morice with only 23 ha and a few cows, the farm is today renowned for its calves under the mother and for several years for the numerous posts on social networks, without forgetting a passage (not the best memory of the farmer) to Love is in the Meadow.

The arrival of Loyd will allow the farm to expand by 80 ha, between Saint-Molf and Mesquer, for a total area of 200 ha with a production of around 220 calves per year.

Old-fashioned breeding

It's the perfect size for the three of us. We want to stay within the perspective of old-fashioned breeding. We will be able to develop grassland, the production of animal feed and straw. Our goal is to become as autonomous as possible in our activity.

The farm has just integrated Limousin cows “registered” for genetics and Aubrac cows “which enhance the marsh”.

It also plans to launch into beef and direct sales (today its products are sold in supermarkets).

“We bought Highland cows, we would like to set up an educational farm,” says Nathalie who also manages two lodges, one of which must have paddocks to accommodate horse-riders and hikers.

Two new buildings are in the pipeline, one covered with solar panels, the other dedicated to calving.

“Proud of my family”

There is therefore no shortage of projects in the Morice Islands.

“I am very proud of my successful family, of my mother who started from nothing to rebuild everything,” says Loyd, under the tender gaze of Nathalie. The maternal torch seems well and truly passed.
