MOOD – On February 2, Martin Adjari will become president of this “Regulatory Authority”, the point of which we are still wondering about.
The French love to create pharmacies. In public broadcasting, we have to go back to 1972: the birth of the High Audiovisual Council, a “consultative entity” (and little consulted) of the ORTF which has become, over the years, with high-sounding names, “High Authority” , “National Commission for Communication and Liberties”, “Higher Audiovisual Council” then, for three years, ARCOM, an acronym too long to detail here. Changes of names for the same sterile bureaucracy.
The missions? “Audiovisual policeman”, censorship committee, office of “reports” (in good French: “denunciations”, another national passion). The advisors are appointed by the government. Independence is an ideal. Everyone holds on to the goatee.
French vanity
In 2022, ARCOM has a budget of 46.6 million euros and employs 355 people. The organization chart, very distracting, full of “directors”, “cabinet directors”, “deputy directors”, “deputy general directors”, and all kinds of feathered hats, can be seen on the website of the ‘institution, Arcom.fra masterpiece of French vanity.
On February 2, Martin Adjari, proposed by the Élysée, weakly approved by Parliament (47 for, 36 against), succeeds Roch-Olivier Maistre as president of this “thing”. We wish him the best and, first of all, to discover the interest of this “Regulatory Authority”, which seems straight out of Jean Yanne, Jacques Tati or Courteline.
