Historically low popularity rating for François Bayrou at the start of his mandate: News

Ifop has not found such a high level of unpopularity for a Prime Minister after taking office since the appointment of Michel Debré in 1959.

François Bayrou begins his term as Prime Minister with a historically low popularity rating, according to the Ifop-Journal du Dimanche barometer, relayed by Le Figaro. Indeed, 66% of French people are dissatisfied with the new head of government, compared to only 34% who say they are satisfied or very satisfied.

Ifop, which has been carrying out this barometer for years, has not found such a high level of unpopularity for a Prime Minister immediately after taking office since the appointment of Michel Debré in 1959. Moreover, François Bayrou , who hopes to form a government in the days to come, suffers from greater discontent than his predecessor Michel Barnier (55%), than Gabriel Attal in January 2024 (46%) and than Elisabeth Borne in May 2022 (43%).

The president's rating up slightly

For his part, Emmanuel Macron is enjoying a slight increase in popularity, according to the Ifop poll. In fact, the total number of satisfied people is up 2 points compared to last month, at 24%, compared to 76% of dissatisfied people. The survey was carried out among a sample of 2,004 people, representative of the French population aged 18 and over.
