The Swiss comic-police series “Tschugger” is enjoying unprecedented success for a Swiss series. Each season has attracted nearly a million viewers on television and online. The fourth and final season has been available on Play Suisse since November 17.
“Tschugger” means “chickens” in French. Co-produced by SRF and Shining Film, the series tells the story of life in a police station in Upper Valais, with two gendarmes who are as reckless as they are infantile. In the main role: David Constantin, also creator and director of the series.
A triumph in German-speaking Switzerland since its first season broadcast in 2021, the success of “Tschugger” subsequently won the hearts of French-speaking people, in particular thanks to the participation, in the third season, of Vincent Veillon and Vincent Kucholl.

A humor that does not know the Röstigraben
American atomic bomb, Russian mafia, completely crazy intrigues, the series, filmed in Valais far from postcard landscapes, is nevertheless inspired by many true stories. David Constantin himself grew up in Salquenen, a commune in Haut-Valais. “It’s not difficult to write when you’ve really experienced all that,” he explains in the 7:30 p.m. of November 20.
For three years, David Constantin has been working with producer Sophie Toth and the Shining studios based in Zurich. “When we finished the first season, I was really scared. Is it the right humor? Is it the right tone? Are people going to understand the story?” recalls the producer.
Sophie Toth is now reassured: each season has attracted nearly a million spectators, a record for a Swiss production. The fourth and final season of “Tschugger” promises a crazy plot and will undoubtedly prove once again that humor knows no Röstigraben.
