The TV rights crisis has affected all players in French Football, and in particular the clubs. Huss Famy, director of operations at ASSE, is not worried about the long term, being reassuring for the finances of the Saint-Etienne club.
The summer for French clubs was very hectic. Waiting for a Ligue 1 broadcaster until the beginning of August, two weeks before the resumption of the championship, the elite teams had to be patient before the verdict fell. DAZN has won the right to broadcast the French championship with eight out of nine matches each weekend live. A relief for the LFP and for its president Vincent Labrune, who however hoped to sell the TV rights at a much better price. An expectation which had consequences for the clubs, who were unable to spend the money hoped for on the transfer market. Some, on the other hand, were less impacted and this is notably the case of AS Saint-Etienne, now owned by Kilmer Sports Ventures. The director of operations of the Greens is not necessarily worried by the financial state of the Forez club.
French football is not at its best, ASSE is doing well
Even if he concedes that French football is not at its best, Huss Famy wants to be reassuring about the ASSE sporting project: “On the TV rights, we were aware of everything that was happening but we weren't inside either. I don't think our project depends on television rights. France is a very sophisticated country. Football is at the heart of this country, the players are extraordinary, the stadiums are good, the fan communities are strong so the fundamentals are there! It is our task alongside other presidents to work on this subject. This is not the best moment that French football is experiencing in relation to television rights, but that does not worry us in the long term.», he explains according to remarks made during a conference. After a delicate start in Ligue 1, ASSE is slowly climbing back up and now finds itself thirteenth, three points ahead of the play-off place. Coach Olivier Dall'Oglio even said that the Greens had a good chance of recruiting this winter, which gives an indication of the club's finances.
