Thunderclap in sight for the L’Equipe channel

As Le Parisien indicates, the L'Équipe channel asked Arcom to recover the number of C8 or NRJ 12 next January. The free sports channel wants, at least, to be part of the “news block”.

Last July, Arcom (Regulatory Authority for Audiovisual and Digital Communication) did not renew the TNT frequency of the Bolloré group channel, the most sanctioned in recent years, nor that of NRJ 12, a media outlet in financial difficulties .

Like other audiovisual groups, L'Equipe applied to Arcom to take over the numbers of C8 and NRJ 12, as indicated The Parisian. L'Equipe also proposes to the media regulator to be part of the “info bloc”, the association of Info and LCI, which hopes to leave channels 26 and 27 to join the two star 24-hour news channels, BFM and Cnews (15 and 16). This “news block”, perhaps with L'Equipe, would integrate the top 20 TNT channels and L'Equipe hopes to boost its audiences and advertising revenue (low compared to other channels).

The L’Equipe channel has good arguments

As stated The Parisianthe L'Équipe group recalls being the only free sports channel: “In a very competitive world, where Canal +, BeIN, DAZN and Eurosport are competing for the rights to the main competitions at high prices, the daily sports channel has managed to carve out a place for itself by focusing on competitions that have long been shunned by paid broadcasters, such as the Biathlon World Cup, alpine skiing, or football matches
the French team hopeful football players and those of the French women's handball team »
. L'Equipe also has the TV rights to two Serie A matches per day (but cannot yet broadcast calcio on its channel).

The disappearance of C8 and NRJ 12 at the start of 2025 will also bring joy to two new channels: OFTV, from the regional media Ouest-France, and Réels TV, a channel launched by CMI France, from Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky, who holds the titles Elle, 7 Days TV, Marianne, France Sunday or the Loopsider media.
