Be careful, strong emotions await! If you don’t know what to watch on this week, why not check out this multi-award winning film, which caused a lot of buzz when it was released in 2018? This moving drama, which flirts with the codes of the thriller, deals with a serious social subject in an organic and impactful way.

Directed by Xavier Legrand, To the hilt follows a couple going through a divorce. The mother accuses her husband of violence and demands sole custody of their son, who is still a minor. Striking and distressing, To the hilt is an extremely strong (first!) film which left its mark on spectators when it was released in 2018. Thanks to a perfectly mastered direction which constantly puts the spectator under tension and served by masterful acting performances (Léa Drucker, César winner for this role, and Denis Ménochet in the lead), Xavier Legrand offers an experience of crazy intensity for the viewer, but essential for understanding the mechanisms of violence in the family circle.

After its release, this family drama was praised by critics and the public, before winning four more than deserved Césars: Best Film, Best Actress for Léa Drucker, Best Original Screenplay and Best Editing. It also won the Silver Lion for Best Direction and the Best First Film award at the Venice Film Festival.

To the hilt is a drama and thriller that you absolutely must see. And that’s good, since Xavier Legrand’s feature film is broadcast this week on the TV program. France 3 offers it to its viewers on Monday, November 25, at 9:05 p.m. It is also available for purchase and rental on most VOD platforms.
