This question tormented fans ofEmily in Paris since the release of the end of season 4 on Netflix, but also French President Emmanuel Macron! With Emily in charge of developing the Grateau agency office in Rome and living la dolce vita with the handsome Marcello, the plot of the series seemed to be moving, slowly but surely, towards the Italian capital. Was Emily Cooper going to swap the Eiffel Tower for the Colosseum? A debate which occupied even the highest echelons of the State: Emmanuel Macron said he was ready to “fight” to keep the production of the American Netflix series in France. In an interview with Variety, the French president insisted: “We will ask them to stay in Paris. Emily in Paris in Rome makes no sense.” Words which immediately caused the mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, to react. “Relax Emmanuel Macron. Emily in Rome is perfect”, he wrote on his X account. On the American site The Hollywood Reporter, he even added : “Doesn't President Macron have more pressing problems to resolve? I would like to believe, at least I would like to hope, that Macron was joking, because he should know that a production company like Netflix does not receive no orders from heads of state and does not make decisions based on political pressure.” In this month of November 2024, the production of’Emily in Paris seems to have settled this very political debate and proved the French president right. In part at least.
Season 5 ofEmily in Paris will be well shot in Paris
According to information from Variety, Season 5 of Emily in Paris will indeed return to Paris, even if some of the scenes will also be filmed in Rome. Filming should begin the first week of May 2025. Another filming location would also be considered, after Saint-Tropez in season 2 and Megève in season 4. But this is not the only news that will rejoice fans of the series worn by Lily Collins. Still according to the American media, French actor Lucas Bravo is reportedly on track to reprise his role as Chef Gabriel. His restaurant, which won its first Michelin star in the finale of season 4, would once again serve as a setting for the intrigues of the series.
Lucas Bravo returns in season 5 ofEmily in Paris despite his criticism?
Good news for fans, who were worried about the presence or absence of Lucas Bravo in the casting, because of his rather harsh criticism of his character. In full promotion of Mélanie Laurent's film, Libreon Prime Video, of which he plays the main role, the actor was quite virulent. “I don't recognize Gabriel anymore, it's like he's been turned into guacamole, he confided to TV Mag. Three seasons of melancholy, sadness, depression and loss, it's no longer fun. It's a comedy, everyone around me is having fun, everyone is jumping around, and I'm slowly sinking into God knows what.” In another interview with the American site IndieWire, he added a layer : “For seasons, I tried to bring nuance but we don't have a lot of freedom on set. You can't change a word or an emotion. They know what they want and we just have to comply. This makes I wonder if I want to be in season 5 (…) because my contract ends in season 4“.
Following his statements, a source close to production reported to the American media US Weekly that they were having difficulty going behind the scenes, to the point of perhaps compromising his place in season 5: “The series will continue with or without Lucas. The series is called Emily in Paris, not Gabriel in Paris. Everyone is very angry after his comments. There will be a lot of tension on set.” According to a source close to the production, cited by Variety, Lucas Bravo would not have expressed his criticisms to the creator ofEmily in ParisDarren Star.
