In Reports (our opinion), to be seen on France 2 this Wednesday, November 20, Cécile Bois plays a woman whose niece is mistreated by her parents, and in particular her mother, played by Odile Vuillemin. A TV film inspired by a terrible true story, and brilliantly directed by Éric Métayer, which retraces the real battle led by Laurence Brunet-Jambu against justice and child welfare in order to protect a child from the violence she suffered. victim. Meeting with the two actresses.
Reports: “I didn't want to traumatize her…” Odile Vuillemin and Cécile Bois talk about Flavie Dachy (Karine), the 11-year-old actress who plays the martyred young heroine
Télé-Loisirs: How do you adapt such a terrible news story without risking scaring away the viewer?
Cécile Bois. By completely trusting the director, Éric Métayer, who has extensive knowledge of violence against women and children. His goal was not to shock but to shake up enough to convey his message. His way of filming gives the audience the freedom to feel things, without being told how.
Odile Vuillemin. The film is not here to judge. Eric was right, if we show too much, the brain does not have the capacity to receive such violent information. It can trip and go into blackout, as happened to me, for example, after the Bataclan attacks. [le 13 novembre 2015, ndlr].
How did you experience the presence of Laurence Brunet-Jambu on the set?
C. B. I, who am very shy, was a little impressed by this lady and I asked Eric to ask her some questions for me. How do you react when a child is taken from you who you know will be mistreated? Are we screaming? Are we knocking? The situation was so unimaginable that only Laurence could enlighten me.
O.V. As surprising as it may seem, playing such a “villain” character is, above all, totally enjoyable. Guided by Eric, I didn't ask myself any questions. Until one day, while we were filming, I heard Laurence say these words, speaking of his niece's real mother: “It's her, I see her!” » It shocked me even more when I saw a photo: I don't look like him at all!
What was your relationship with Flavie Dachy, the 11-year-old actress who plays this child martyr?
O.V. The first question I asked was: “What is the little one like?” ”, because I didn’t want to traumatize her. I quickly realized that wasn't going to be the case and, in the film, she's just great.
C. B. During the casting, Éric was very vigilant to hire a particularly balanced child. It turns out that Flavie was also very intelligent. I didn't interact much with her because her gaze was so intense that I just had to look into her huge eyes to be completely overwhelmed.
Reporting marks your first collaboration: how did you get to know each other?
C.B. I was very curious to see what tones Odile would give to such a demonic character. I like being a spectator of my partners, it nourishes a relationship with one's own way of embodying characters.
OV We discussed quite a bit about our ways of approaching this profession where we sometimes feel isolated. This quality of rather rare exchanges was a first for me.
