While season 3 of From is currently being broadcast, we are surprised at the lack of response the series receives in France. Certainly, it deserves a lot more attention!
From : quand Lost rencontre Stephen King
Horror occupies a large place in the American television landscape. FromAmerican History X has The Walking Deadincluding the Mike Flanagan series distributed by Netflix (The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass), fans of the genre have plenty to do! However, we regret that the series From is no longer talked about in France, despite its many qualities. The series indeed suffers from its lack of accessibility; to be able to watch it legally, it is necessary to subscribe to a Canal+ Series subscription (which can be expensive) or to the additional Paramount+ option offered by Amazon Prime Video. Initially thought of as a YouTube series, it was ultimately acquired by Epix, which has since become MGM+.
Launched in April 2022, From was created by John Griffin, known among other things for his work as a screenwriter on the anthology series The Twilight Zone: The Fourth Dimension. In production, we find in particular the Russo brothers, the directors of the films Avengers: Infinity War et Avengers: Endgamebut also Josh Applebaum, close collaborator of JJ Abrams, since he produced the series Aliasof which he also signed several episodes. In many ways, the series From seems closer to the works of JJ Abrams than to those of the stars of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
From tell the story of a group of people who don't know each other and find themselves mysteriously stuck in a town on the edge of a forest, which becomes terrifying when monsters appear at nightfall. The series uses the horror genre to address social issues; like Lostthe characters are faced with real puzzles that require mutual assistance and the creation of new ways of (sur)living together. How to feed yourself? Where to sleep? Should we have a leader? How can justice reign? What place should be given to leisure? The inhabitants of this city question the foundations of civilization.
Spectators will appreciate the suspense of this series with a particularly well-crafted storyline. John Griffin stands out as a king of cliffhangers, like Brian K. Vaughan (Saga, Y the last man). Moreover, the master of horror Stephen King himself recommended the viewing of From after discovering its first three episodes.
FROM: I’m three episodes in. Wonderful concept, beautifully handled. Is it possible these people are dead and don’t know it?
That spike through the head…holy cow.
— Stephen King (@StephenKing)
FROM: I'm on episode three. A wonderful concept, beautifully handled. Is it possible that these people are dead and don't know it? This point in the head… My God!
The series also features an unusual cast, including Harold Perrineau Jr., who after playing in Matrix Reloaded, 28 weeks later et Lostgets the role of his career with this police inspector who fully assumes his role as leader having to weigh the pros and cons of all his decisions. For their part, Eliot Bailey (Band of Brothers, Fight Club, Ray Donovan) and Catalina Sandino Moreno (That, The Affair) play a couple who arrive in this disturbing city and who seek to protect their children.
Despite the deafening silence surrounding the release of season 3 of From, the new batch of episodes is a huge success with fans, obtaining a 100% satisfaction rating on Rotten Tomatoes. We strongly recommend that you discover From. You won't regret it!
