EXCLUDED Ismaël Khelifa (Échappées belles) absent for a good part of the year: extremely well-established organization with his wife for their children

On October 17, Ismaël Khelifa has swapped his hat as a journalist and presenter for that of a writer. That day his first novel was published, The most beautiful thing in lifepublished by Les Escales. On this occasion, Purepeople.com spoke with the 45-year-old traveler. In addition to his book, inspired by his honeymoon, Ismaël Khelifa agreed to talk about a more personal subject: his family life. Because he is the happy husband ofAlice Gastinealso a journalist and documentary filmmaker, and father of two children: Nael (6 years) and Aden (4 ans).

A family life of four not at all disturbed by his numerous and recurring trips around the world for the good of the show Beautiful escapes ( 5) despite the guilt at the beginning. “When I started doing this job, a lot of people told me ‘You’re gone 100 days a year, what hell’. SO, I told myself that I was abandoning my family but I have a friend who is an emergency doctor, who is not at home three days a week, I have a friend who is an airplane pilot who leaves for three weeks… In fact, there are a lot of us who are leaving, I am not the alone“, he understood.

A balanced family organization that “took time”

Ismaël Khelifa and his wife then simply set up their own mechanism. “When I come back, I fully embrace my family life again and so I do lots of things with my kids, I take them everywhere. And then, there is the question of the famous mental load and there, I become the point of reference for everything that happens at home : shopping, taking the little ones to the doctor, cleaning… And finally, I find that there is a distribution of tasks within the couple which is somewhat more egalitarian. It’s going really well but it took me a while. I was a guilty traveler at first but now we found a way to organize together, and it’s really cool“.

As soon as he can, the presenter also takes his two boys with him, to whom he wishes to pass on as much as he can his taste for discovering the world. “They have already come to film shoots in France. My son, the older one, has fun filming so I think it speaks to him, they love watching the show and like me I was a traveler before doing Beautiful escapes, it was obvious that I was taking them along in my delusions“, he shared with us. And added: “I try to mix them into my life a lot. I try to pass on to them my love of discovery, the love of discovering others too. That’s what made me happy so I try to share my world with them, I think it’s my responsibility. And I love it, it’s a big blast when they’re filming!
