French television is about to undergo a major shake-up with the new reorganization of the TNT channels. This Monday, January 13, Arcom finally unveiled the new numbering which will come into force on June 6. Among the most notable changes, Canal+ will definitively leave TNT, leaving its place to France 4, while Gulli will climb to twelfth position after the announced disappearance of NRJ 12 on February 28 at midnight.
But one of the most anticipated changes concerns channel 8who sees C8 losing its historic place. This upheaval is part of a desire to rebalancing of the audiovisual landscapewith emphasis on information and educational content.
A new organization of information channels
As of June 6, 2025, chains continuous information will benefit from a better accessibility on the TNT schedule. BFMTV will maintain its leading position on channel 13followed by CNEWS (14), LCI (15) and Franceinfo (16). Moreover, a brand new channel, CMI TVfrom the Czech press group Czech Media Investwill appear on the channel 18. A little later in the year, regional television Ouest-France TV will settle on the canal 19.
LCP-Public Senate takes over on channel 8
The most notable announcement remains the replacement of C8 by the parliamentary channel LCP-Public Sénate. This promotion marks a real turning point for this channel, which this year is celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary. Long positioned lower in the numbering, it made a significant leap and thus gained better visibility among viewers.
Emmanuel Kessler, president and CEO of LCP-Public Senatespoke enthusiastically about this development. In an official press release, he underlines the historic nature of this decisionwhile slipping in a subtle remark against the current programming of C8:
-“I welcome a historic decision by Arcom, which constitutes a strong republican gesture. (…) The channel 8 will now be occupied by a demanding and accessible channelwhose public service mission is more necessary than ever. A chain civic and citizeneducational, which gives meaning and attempts to provide a response to the democratic challenges we are facing. »
A reinforced ambition for LCP-Public Senate
With this unexpected promotion, LCP-Public Senate will now have to appeal to a wider audience and modernize its offer to establish itself as a actor essential of TNT. The stated objective is clear: strengthen the channel’s image and propose more attractive and readable programs while remaining faithful to its mission ofdemocratic and citizen information.
While some viewers may regret the disappearance of C8this change marks a stated desire to promote more demanding and educational content. It remains to be seen whether this new programming will convince the public and become a lasting part of the French audiovisual landscape.
