A transfer to Aston Martin
Although Gary Gannon started work for Aston Martin this week, it has not yet been confirmed whether he will take on the role of race engineer for Lance Stroll or Fernando Alonso for the 2025 season.
-In 2024, Ben Michell was Lance Stroll's race engineer, working with the Canadian since 2021, while Fernando Alonso collaborated with Chris Cronin. The latter had previously held the same position with the Spaniard's predecessors at Aston Martin, notably Sebastian Vettel and Sergio Perez, under the team's previous names (Force India and Racing Point).
An Aston Martin spokesperson confirmed the addition of Gary Gannon to the engineering team, but said he remains to determine which driver he will work with. This recruitment comes a year before Aston Martin's transition to Honda power units, when the team will become the official partner of the Japanese manufacturer and will cease to be a customer of Mercedes.
Gary Gannon's past experience could prove valuable for this transitionsince he worked for 10 years as a development engineer for Honda in the now defunct American CART and American Le Mans Series. Before joining Haas, he also held a position with the Marussia team in F1.
The arrival of Gary Gannon is the latest in the reorganization of the Aston Martin team with a view to 2025. Last week it was announced that Andy Cowell, the team's general manager, would also take on the role of team principal. Mike Krack, who has held the position for three years, has been named to the new position of Director of Field Operations.
