4 on 4, BFM- on 13… The new numbering of channels on TNT revealed

This is an important issue in terms of audience. After carrying out consultations with the channels, the audiovisual regulator, Arcom, announced, Monday January 13, the new numbering of DTT. The public channel 4 – which was until now on number 14 – must notably replace Canal+ on number 4 from June 6.

The continuous news channels BFM, CNews, LCI and Franceinfo will be grouped together on the same date on channels 13 to 16. In October, Roch-Olivier Maistre, outgoing president of Arcom, announced that the regulator was considering constitute “a block of information channels” to group the four into neighboring numbers. The main criterion was “public interest”also assured Roch-Olivier Maistre, outgoing president of Arcom, in December.

This unprecedented change in numbering results from the next shutdown on digital terrestrial television of C8 and NRJ12, decided by the same authority for the end of February. This opened the possibility of a major shake-up of the channels, which will change the habits of viewers. If Arcom rejected two current licensees, C8 and NRJ12, it also selected two new channels: one launched by the CMI France group, owned by Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky, the other by West France.
