RTL info is launching an overhaul of its weekend television news with revisited formats to adapt to viewers’ expectations. Culture, in-depth information, prospective news: everything is designed to offer information that is both rich and accessible.
From this weekend, the RTL info television news is evolving with a redesigned format, as Philippe Roussel, news director, explains: “The Saturday news will be calibrated over 30 minutes and will offer a mix of hot news and in-depth subjects”. Among the new features, a section dedicated to cases followed over several weeks, as well as a summary of the major news of the week to allow viewers to better contextualize the information.
Furthermore, particular attention will be paid to the sequence “Flemish style” : “It will allow viewers to better understand what happened in Flanders, a sometimes little-known subject, but essential in the Belgian context.”
On Sunday, there is a longer format, with a 45-minute newscast. This Sunday meeting aims to open up the coming week: “Sunday evening is the first news of the week for me. We offer a survey and prospective topics to anticipate major events to come“. There will also be a political component with “Face à Buxant”, a ten-minute interview with a personality, hosted by Martin Buxant.
Culture highlighted
One of the big new features concerns the highlighting of culture in the Saturday news. “We wanted to mark Saturday evening as a cultural moment on our channel, with a dedicated long format”specifies Philippe Roussel. These segments will deal with cinema, music, painting as well as exhibitions. For example, this Saturday, January 11, the newspaper will highlight Lara Fabian’s new album with an exclusive interview.
A 1 p.m. focused on immediate news
The 1 p.m. news remains focused on hot news, without encroaching on the 7 p.m. “1 p.m. is dedicated to hot news and guests”explains the information director.
This overhaul is part of a reflection on new modes of information consumption. “Belgians, like everywhere else, now get their information via applications and radio, and watch less television. We must therefore offer them real added value to capture their attention”analyzes Philippe Roussel. Qualitative studies carried out by RTL info have confirmed the benefit of this change: a bold bet for a leading editorial team.
A differentiated offer anchored in proximity
With this new formula, RTL info is banking on information that aims to be exhaustive, close to Belgian concerns and open to the world. The weekend team, led by Michaël Miraglia, supported by Antoine Schuurwegen, will embody this new tone. “We want to offer a differentiated offer compared to the week, which is both informative and enriching”concludes Philippe Roussel.
These adjustments mark an ambitious development for the weekend television news, designed to become a real meeting place for viewers looking for news and analysis.
