The 19-year-old baker who prepared the batch at Fournil de Castillon, the “blue bakery” of Castillon-la-Bataille, had the fright of his life. He was robbed around 3 a.m. this Thursday, January 2, by a hooded stranger who asked him for the keys to the coin mechanism installed in the business. The man had a handgun. He was unable to obtain satisfaction from the young man. And was unable to get his hands on the keys after searching the premises. He left without cash. But not without stripping the young man. The Libourne gendarmerie is deploying its resources to find the perpetrator.
The man apparently acted alone. He entered the bakery through a side door to surprise the baker. “We are not sure that the weapon was real but the effect is the same for the victim,” laments Mayor Jacques Breillat, who kept himself informed of developments in the situation. The gendarmerie was already on site when the manager of the bakery, Dominique Monai, arrived on site. The man found nothing, he was able to confirm on site, even though he had turned everything over. Employees do not actually have access to the coin mechanism keys or knowledge of where they are. The baker can only welcome the installation of such a device fixed to the ground, “initially put in place for hygiene reasons”, which turns out to be an asset in terms of safety.
The shocked victim
The investigation was entrusted to the gendarmes of the community of brigades of Castillon-la-Bataille and the Libourne research brigade. The investigators, confirms Dominique Monai, are working in particular to exploit the video surveillance images of the establishment. The bakery remained open normally after the robbery. The young baker attacked was put to rest. “He put a gun behind his neck. He threatened him by grabbing his t-shirt to get the key,” we explain on site. Although he is not injured, he is still very shocked.
