The prolific television and cinematographic craftsman Yan England, to whom we notably owe the first season of Red Bracelets, broadcast in 2022 on TVA, once again puts on his director's hat with the promising series Rematchwhich will be broadcast next month on Télé-Québec.
Inspired by real events, this 6-episode thriller actually presents a part of the story of Russian Garry Kasparov, who is considered the best chess player of all time, while he must face the supercomputer from IBM Deep Blue. These events, which actually took place between 1996 and 1997, pitted the machine against the undisputed world champion, in what would become a pivotal moment from a technological point of view.

We are thus promised a rolling fire of intrigues, against a backdrop of technology, intertwined with lessons on the value of family and the ego. To do this, Yan surrounded himself with an international-caliber cast, starting with the title role of Garry Kasparov, which was entrusted to English actor Christian Cooke. IBM marketing director Helen Brock is played by Irish actress Sarah Bolger, while Danish-born actress Trine Dyrholm plays the role of Klara Kasparova, Garry's mother.
The series even received critical acclaim earlier this year, where Yan England was awarded the Grand Prize at the Séries Mania television festival in France. With this new project, the director caps his journey with an astonishing new proposal, which we can't wait to discover on the small screen!
Rematch is a Unité production, in co-production with ARTE France.
