An expected sequel to Dune: Prophecy
HBO has confirmed that Dune: Prophecy will therefore be renewed for a season 2. The announcement was made during a press conference, a few days before the broadcast of the last episode of the first season, scheduled for December 22, 2024. According to HBO, the first episode, broadcast on November 17, has already been viewed by 15 million spectators around the world on the Max platform.
Alison Schapker, showrunner of the series, said: We are grateful to our partners and excited to continue working with this extraordinary team. This new season will allow us to continue the story.

For those who haven’t watched yet, the series takes place 10,000 years before the events of Denis Villeneuve’s films, and is based on the novel Sisterhood of Dune, co-written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. It follows Valya and Tula Harkonnen, two sisters played by Emily Watson and Olivia Williams. These characters fight against forces threatening the future of humanity, while establishing the foundations of the Bene Gesserit order, an organization that plays a key role in the Dune universe.
The series also explores the origins of the Harkonnen, often presented as villains in the universe. The goal is to reveal what led this family to become one of the symbols of oppression in the main works.
A strong production team
The series is produced by HBO and Legendary Television. Alison Schapker, as showrunner and executive producer, is accompanied by Diane Ademu-John, co-developer of the series, and Anna Foerster, director of several episodes. Brian Herbert, Kevin J. Anderson, and other members connected to the Frank Herbert legacy are also involved in the production.
The cast includes, in addition to Watson and Williams, actors like Travis Fimmel, Mark Strong and Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, who play characters with key roles in the plot.
A franchise that expands
This renewal confirms HBO’s desire to strengthen the Dune universe. With a third film adaptation in the works, as well as a video game based on Arrakis in development, Dune: Prophecy is part of a broader strategy that seeks to expand the reach of this franchise. The release date for season 2 has yet to be specified.
