Guest of “Buzz TV”, the France Info morning broadcaster broadcasts the documentary Service Public 2 on the Explore platform. She takes us behind the scenes of the legislative campaign, talks about her commitment and talks about competition.
An experienced journalist who worked for Canal+, BFMTV and Quotidien on TMC, Salhia Brakhlia has been working on France Info for four years. Co-presenter of the morning show alongside Jérôme Chapuis, she also provides the 8:30 a.m. political interview and co-directs the documentary Public service 2: fronts against fronts.
She explains how this second opus came about last June: “ This documentary was absolutely not planned! It’s the evening of the Europeans and I’m on the set with Roland Lescure, the minister of industry. We listen to Emmanuel Macron announce the dissolution and I see him learning the news with his jaw dropping! I told myself that we were experiencing something crazy, historic and we took out the cameras the next day to film everything during the campaign. », explique Salhia Brakhlia.
The “small strategies” of politicians
The journalist admits to having questioned herself about her commitment. Remain neutral or take sides against the RN at the gates of power? “It’s true that I asked myself, both as a journalist and a citizen, whether I should take sides. We decided to remain factual on France Info while other media were campaigning against the RN“, she says. “ I’ll tell you a secret: in recent years, I didn’t know who to vote for on D-Day! I know all the personalities and all the programs but, like many French people, I am lost …», confesse Salhia Brakhlia.
Questioned on the subject of the privatization of public broadcasting in the event of a victory for the RN, Salhia Brakhlia admits that the slogan was not to “ especially not overdo it because that is not the concern of the French “. Although she admits that internally, “ people were not very happy with the idea that we could be privatized.»
The morning lady also recounts how the politicians, who took turns at France Info for three weeks, developed strategies that were often shaky: “ In the documentary, we clearly see that politicians are afraid for their positions and are implementing small strategies. And we understand that these strategies laid the foundations for what is happening today: it was obvious that it would not work and that there would be instability! “, she assures.
The CNews case
Salhia Brakhlia does not hesitate to say that the level of racism in France also increased during this campaign: “ Racist speech has been released! I wondered how to tell it because racism remains a crime and it must be denounced. Yes, there are racist French people, but fortunately it is not the majority. I myself receive tons of racist letters and tweets. You never have to get used to it, but I know how to shield myself against it and I’m not afraid. »
Finally, the journalist gives a word about the competition and mentions her former house, BFMTV, which lost its position as leader of news channels to CNews: “ There is a remodeling of BFMTV. They took our former boss, Jean-Philippe Baille. I know his professionalism and I think that BFM colleagues should trust him “, she announces.
As for the competitor CNews, Salhia Brakhlia has a clear opinion on the question: “ CNews is above all a lot of opinion! There is a lot of debate with a table with people around. But the question is: who do we put around? Legitimate people and experts like we do on France Info, or anyone and everyone? My mother loves the news and she has an opinion on everything. But do I invite him in the morning on France Info? No, because I want people who are experienced and legitimate in their public speaking. We are a media with a responsibility and that is very important!», she concludes.
