Dialogue is not yet on the agenda between La France insoumise and François Bayrou. President of the LFI group in the National Assembly, Mathilde Panot will not participate in the consultations in Matignon launched by the new Prime Minister, she announced in a press release on Sunday.
Before being able to form a new government, François Bayrou will receive from this Monday the parliamentary groups and party leaders “in their order of importance” numerically in the National Assembly. Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella will be the first received at Matignon this Monday at 9 a.m.
LFI in contrast to other left-wing parties
“Contacted by Matignon”, Mathilde Panot says she does not refuse “on principle” to meet the head of government. “But since the Prime Minister has not yet formed his government and has not yet appeared before the National Assembly, we will not participate in such discussions,” she explains.
“There can be no question of participating in a grand coalition government or negotiating any non-censorship agreement,” she adds, distinguishing herself from other left-wing parties, open to discussions with the new tenant of Matignon. Mathilde Panot also underlines the wish of La France insoumise to censure François Bayrou “from the moment (he) refuses to submit to the vote of confidence before Parliament”.
Mélenchon defends the NFP
The representatives of LFI have “the fear that all this will again be a comedy where we pretend and where, obviously, we deceive everyone”, for his part, the leader of the radical left movement Jean-Luc Mélenchon told M6. . For him, the government of François Bayrou, whom he asks to seek a vote of confidence from the deputies after his general policy declaration, “is not viable since he is doing the same thing as before.”
Jean-Luc Mélenchon also said he was “in favor of extending” the left-wing alliance of the New Popular Front, despite a “divergence” with the socialists, who, like LFI, are not demanding the departure of Emmanuel Macron. “From time to time, there are dishes that are broken. I regret it. But if the New Popular Front was broken, that means that we are giving a free hand to Mr. Macron and the National Rally,” he argued.
